Home is more than just walls and furniture – it is the place where life happens, where love is felt, and where faith is nurtured. As I think about the kind of home I want to create, I picture a space filled with warmth, laughter, and the presence of Jesus. I want my children to feel safe and deeply loved, knowing that no matter what happens in the world, they have a place where they can truly be themselves.
When you envision your home, what do you envision your family and guests feeling when they are there? Take a moment to think about this and make a list. I will share a few that were on my list as a I thought about this.
MY VISION OF HOME
In my vision of our home Jesus isn’t just an occasional topic—He’s at the center of our conversations, our decisions, and our daily lives. I want my children to hear His name so often that it isn’t awkward one bit when we mention Jesus in daily conversation. I want prayers to be whispered over scraped knees and spoken boldly over big dreams. I want scripture to be part of our everyday rhythm, reminding us of who we are and WHOSE we are.
I envision our home as a place where we gather, I mean really gather. That means sitting down for dinner together every evening, sharing stories and laughter. It is a place where phones are put away, eye contact is made, and hearts are heard. These moments matter. They build a foundation of belonging, showing our children (and our guests) that relationships are more valuable than distractions.
More than anything, I want my home to be a refuge—a place where my children feel secure, where they know they are deeply loved for exactly who they are. I want them to dance in the kitchen, build forts in the living room, and ask big questions about life and faith without hesitation. And I want our guests to feel the same warmth, like they’ve stepped into a place where they are valued and welcomed, just as they are.
A REFLECTION OF WHO YOU ARE
A home should be a reflection of the people who live in it—vibrant, unique, and full of life. I don’t want perfection; I want personality. Our home is a canvas, telling the story of our family’s love, faith, and creativity. Whether it’s through the art on the walls, the books on the shelves, or the way we open our doors to others, our home should visually and emotionally represent who we are.
CREATING YOUR OWN VISION
What kind of home do you want to create? If you haven’t thought about it before, take a moment to pray over your home and ask God to help you shape it into a place that glorifies Him and nurtures your family. Whether it’s through intentional conversations, shared meals, or simply creating a warm and inviting atmosphere, every home has the potential to be a place of love, connection, and faith.
Let’s build homes that aren’t just beautiful to look at but are beautiful in the way they make people feel. Homes that reflect Jesus, cultivate deep relationships, and remind everyone who enters that they are safe, loved, and seen.
