Hosting is not about a spotless home, the perfect meal, or a beautifully curated space. True hospitality—the kind that reflects the heart of the Lord—is about making space for others in your life and in your home, just as you are.
In a world that often tells us we need to “have it all together” before opening the door, Scripture reminds us that our homes are not meant to be showcased for ourselves.
Romans 12:13 says, “Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” It doesn’t say, “Only invite them in when your floors are clean and your laundry is folded.” It simply says: share. Welcome.
Some of the most meaningful gatherings I’ve had were around messy tables with toddlers underfoot, dishes in the sink, and hearts that just needed connection. When we let go of the pressure to perform, we create room for the Spirit to move.
1 Peter 4:9 tells us, “Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.” This verse speaks not only to our willingness to open our homes, but also our hearts. When we host with joy, simplicity, and a spirit of welcome, we reflect Christ—who never once asked us to be perfect before coming to Him.
So open your door. Light a candle if you want to—but know that your presence is what matters most. Hosting with a heart for the Lord isn’t about impressing, it’s about inviting. Inviting others to be seen, to be fed, to be loved, and to feel at home—not just with you, but with Him.
